Celtic Woman performs at the Civic Center on Monday.

Power group Celtic Woman makes its way back to Tallahassee with a new show and a new singer for a show Monday night at the Civic Center.

"A New Journey" features six talented songstresses known for their big voices and elaborate gowns, plus a spunky fiddle player and a cast of nearly 50 musicians and crew members. Newcomer Alex Sharpe, who's replacing new mom Lisa Kelly, is settling in just fine, said fellow vocalist Orla Fallon.

Fallon, a multiple winner of both the International Feis Ceoil and International Pan Celtic competitions, called the Democrat to detail what the women have been up to and how they pass the time while on tour.

"We're always having fun, and we never stop singing," said Fallon, who added the singers like to branch out of their own genre into country ballads and television theme songs.

Sometimes on their bus ride, they plug the name of the town they'll be visiting into a song. On last year's tour in Illinois, for example, they changed the Dolly Parton song "Jolene" to "Moline."

And for an entire day on their way to Illinois' capital of Springfield, they hummed the theme song to "The Simpsons," set in a fictional town also named Springfield.

Fallon, who will perform three solos at the show, is a native of Knockananna, Ireland, and known for her haunting voice.

It's that voice that contributes to the Celtic Woman sound, a brand of soulful, spiritual music that's recognizable when the women are covering old songs, such as "Over the Rainbow" and "Danny Boy."

The layered harmonies are underscored by the superb instrumentalists. One of them is Fallon, who plays the harp on such songs as "Scarborough Fair."

Fallon said she's proud of the success of the group and its international audience.

"I really feel a sense of achievement," she said, "when you can put on our CD and someone says, 'Oh, that's Celtic Woman.'"
