Irish singing sensation Celtic Woman are touring Japan from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16. Often referred to as "Riverdance for the voice," the group have a strong fan base in Japan.
Celtic Woman perform in Japan in November and December.
Comprising five Irish female artists ? four vocalists and a violinist ? Celtic Woman have a repertoire ranging from traditional Celtic tunes to modern pop songs. Their debut album in 2005 reached No.1 on Billboard's World Music chart. It broke a long-standing record by retaining the top spot for 81 weeks, only knocked off by their second album, "Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration."
As well as regular dates in Tokyo and Osaka, they will also give Christmas concerts in Nagasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture and Tokyo, where they will perform a selection of Christmas tunes. In particular, the Japanese audience can look forward to their version of "You Raise Me Up," which became a hit after it was used by figure skater Shizuka Arakawa for her 2006 Turin Winter Olympics gold-winning performance.
Celtic Woman perform at Orchard Hall, Tokyo (Nov. 26-28, 7 p.m., ?8,000-12,000); Osaka Kosei Nenkin Kaikan (Nov. 29, 7 p.m., ?8,000-12,000); and Aichi Kinrou Kaikan (Dec. 1, ?12,000). The "Celtic Christmas" performances take place at Arkas Sasebo, Nagasaki (Dec. 11, ?2,000-4,000); Sumida Triphony Hall, Tokyo (Dec. 15, ?4,800-5,800); and Yokosuka Art Theatre, Kanagawa Prefecture (Dec. 16, ?1,500-5,000).
